This new installation in LANshack's video library, takes the viewer on a step by step explanation on how to pre-lubricate a conduit before a fiber pull using a pre-terminated assembly. President, and on camera talent Tony Casazza felt that this technique could be a valuable asset to many in the industry.
"Experience has shown that field conditions can cause excessive pulling force which in turn can easily ruin the cable. Many people know the importance of lubricating the cable but very few know that they can actually pre-lubricate the conduit. Knowing this technique can save you a great deal of money and time on your next install," he said.
Casazza takes the viewer through a demonstration pull. He ties a section of towel rag that is about 2" wide and 8" long, onto the pull string. The rag is used to contain the lubricant and deposit it throughout the length of the conduit. The rag with the Aqua Gel Cable Pulling Lubricant is pulled in one direction. Then he reapplies the lubricant and pulls in the opposite direction. It is demonstrated that you can do this as many times as you wish. In the final step, the fiber cable is seamlessly pulled in along with the rag with the lubricant.
This technique is something Casazza picked up in the field during his many years of working as a cable installer, and he felt it was a useful tip to share with the cabling community. "Anyone who has ever installed a Fiber Optic Pre-Terminated cable assembly, especially when the run is long and the presence of many bends exists, knows that it is critical to reduce friction. Most installers know how to lubricate the cable but many may not know the technique of (pre) lubricating the conduit," he said. "Because of this, we feel that this is one of the most useful 'How-To's' that we have ever put out," Casazza concluded.
