The advantage of using Indoor/Outdoor cable is that it allows you to run directly from the inside of one building, travel outdoors with the fiber, and come back directly into another building. This eliminates the need to go from an indoor cable to an outside plant cable, then back to indoor cable therefore eliminating unnecessary connection points. This means fewer points of potential failure, and improved photonic performance from eliminating any potential attenuation from connectors or splices. The Indoor/Outdoor cable is surrounded by a water blocking aramid yarn strength member which protects the fiber from situations where light water infiltration may exist, and these cables do not have the 50 foot fire code requirements traditional found with Outdoor cable.
When choosing an Indoor/Outdoor Interlocking Armored cable, you are adding an extra level of protection and security to your fiber. Potential damage to your cable during installation or after can result in downtime to your network, and can be avoided by using an Interlocking Armored cable. The Interlocking Armored Assemblies are standard fiber cables inside a spirally wrapped aluminum interlocking armor. This is not a direct bury cable (see Outdoor) and should still be placed within a conduit if used underground, but the armor provides extra protection for outdoor exposure and for above ground or aerial runs where a conduit may been needed.
Choose QuickTreX® brand, custom "Fiber whips™" for all of your Fiber Optic Cable installations because they are among the finest and most reliable that you can get anywhere.
>>> INDOOR / OUTDOOR Best Suited for: Indoor/Outdoor cables are approved for use in underground conduits, even if the possibility of water infiltration exists. The advantage of using Indoor/Outdoor over standard Outdoor cable is that it does not have the 50 foot restriction for indoor installation that standard outdoor cable has.
