Coaxial RF adapters maintain the shielding of the coaxial cable, and are designed to work with radio frequencies. The fastening mechanism allows for high mating cycles and a reduction in the insertion force. In todays standard, ultra high frequencies are frequencies between 300 MHz and 3 GHz. 

The N style coax connector is a medium sized RF connector which is threaded and weatherproof. It was one of the first connectors to carry microwave- frequency signals up to 14 GHz, but todays N connectors handles frequencies up to 11 GHz.
